So this time there are only two images, and the only difference is the “glow” effect on the title. It’s pretty subtle.
I decided not to use the face from the first round because a lot of people don’t want to see characters’ faces on a cover; it interferes with the versions in their heads.
If you hover over the image, you’ll see the grayscale (i.e. how it would look on a Kindle Paperwhite), and the smaller is as close as I can figure out to Amazon’s images on pages like “Top 100” – hey, I can dream can’t I?
During the months between my original publishing plan and now, I did a ton of research, examining covers in the genres and categories my story fits into, and scoping Joel Friedlander’s wonderful Cover Design Awards pages.
Having actually finished these (they are version 82 of my various cover ideas, for heavens’ sake), now I’m wondering if I should put “Writers of the Future Winning Story” somehow, somewhere on the cover, or just keep it in the marketing copy?
