One of my friends let me know that, RadCon, one of Washington State’s biggest Science Fiction/Fantasy cons is coming up, and I decided to go!
That’s partially because I’m writing again, and partially because an old, old friend, Jim C. Hines, who lives in Michigan, is the Writer Guest of Honor. Pasco, WA, where the con is held is only a two-hour drive from where I live, so I’m driving down.
Jim is a great human being, who, on top of being an awesome writer, also devotes a great deal of time, energy, and words to many worthy causes and ideas, such as the now-famous Cover Poses to highlight the ridiculous sexualization of women on so many science fiction and fantasy covers. I’ve spent many an hour on his blog, which is a great place to hang out. You can see Jim’s books here.
Another person at the con that I’m really looking forward to seeing is John Dalmas, who is the Special Guest of Honor. John is considered “Uncle Sven” and the grand poobah, being a terrific, fascinating person, and a prolific writer, having 27 books in print. You can see John’s books here.
I’m nervous – I haven’t been to a con for ten years at least, and I’m something of an introvert, but I’m looking forward to it at the same time. See old friends, make new ones…what’s not to love?
I may end up doing a reading or sitting on a panel — if so I’ll post an update! bigsmile
