This version is out of print. But you can sometimes snag a copy through Amazon, ABE Books, or (more likely) your local secondhand bookstore. You can, however, read my entry renamed Insurrection, available free here. But every story in this volume is worth reading.
Update: Incursion: Book One of the Unbound Series will be released in Sept 2017! So, stay tuned for that…
If you are interested in writing speculative fiction, I can’t recommend the Writers of the Future Contest enough. It’s an amazing chance to meet “real” writers in both science fiction and fantasy. All judges are working pros — and some giant names, too! — knowing that my childhood hero, the late and very much missed Anne McCaffrey, read MY story and liked it enough to send me to the finals still gives me shivers of joy. Being handed an award by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle wasn’t half bad either. :-)
Winners–there are twelve a year–get a week-long workshop run by professionals in the field, get to meet amazing writers and artists, and–in some ways most importantly–get validation of your skills, instincts and yearning to write.
What a few people have had to say about it:
“It all started when I won the Writers of the Future Contest. They were my first publication. My foot in the door. Without them, I can honestly say I would not be where I am today.”
~ Patrick Rothfuss, Author, Writers of the Future Contest winner
“A very generous legacy from L. Ron Hubbard – a fine, fine fiction writer – for the writers of the future.”
~Anne McCaffrey, Author, Writers of the Future Contest judge
“The Writers of the Future Contest always finds great stories by the new writers who will be winning Hugo and Nebula awards a few years from now.”
~Tim Powers, Author, Writers of the Future Contest judge

Update: Other Links of Interest
Event 1999, Volume XV, from the contest website. I’m hiding in the back row to the left.
A lovely “Photo-Essay Report” by the legendary Jerry Pournelle (no, I’m not in his pictures, although he and Larry Niven handed me my award). Included is some excellent information about the contest, and the controversy that surrounds its progenitor, L. Ron Hubbard.
The novella, “Unbound,” was originally published in the Writers of the Future, vol XV, in 1999. Slightly revised (for naming consistency, but otherwise unaltered), The Unbound: Insurrection novella will be released soon and more to come in the series after that!
Until then, pick up a copy of WotF Vol XV or any volume – you’ll be amazed at the quality and pleasure in every word.
